A quiet orchard base near Manali, made for two
Persimmon Farmstead is a family-run orchard base near Manali built for couples who want quiet over crowds. Wake to snow-peak views from bed, spend evenings by the bonfire, and eat food from our farm kitchen that turns an ordinary night into an occasion. Two homes: Shanag for romance, Badgran for deep quiet.
Most couples come to Manali for the mountains and end up in a hotel row where the valley view is half-blocked by the next building's water tank. We built the other thing. Both our homes sit on orchard land off the main road, so the night sound is the river and wind through apple trees, not horns and someone's speaker two rooms over.
The two of us left corporate jobs in 2021 and settled here, and the whole place is shaped around one idea: a good couples' trip is mostly good mornings, good food, and being left alone. So we point the rooms at the sun, cook like we're feeding friends, and we don't hover.
Two homes to choose from. Shanag, higher and closer to the snow line, is the more romantic. Badgran is the deep-quiet one, with the strong morning sun guests always write home about.
Snow views from bed
Rooms point at the mountains and catch early sun, so you wake to light on the bed and the peaks already out, no alarm needed. In winter, snow from the pillow.
Bonfire evenings for two
A real fire on the lawn most clear nights. Pull two chairs close, we bring food out, and the snow peaks go pink then dark. Couples always stay out longer than planned.
A kitchen that makes a night an occasion
Our small family kitchen is the whole reason we're here. Tell us what you feel like; we'll cook it. A quiet dinner for two by the fire is our favourite thing to set up.
Two homes, two moods
Shanag: wooden chalets and stone cottages, closest to the snow, most romantic. Badgran: deepest quiet, best morning sun, an orchard made for doing nothing well.
Here's the thing nobody tells you about a Manali couples' trip: the mountains are the easy part. What actually makes or breaks it is the small stuff, the morning you get to lie in with the peaks out the window, dinner that doesn't come with a queue, a fire to sit at without a hundred strangers. Both our homes are shaped around exactly that, on orchard land off the main road, where the loudest thing after dark is the river.
Two homes, and how to pick between them
We have two farmstead homes, and for couples they play different notes. Persimmon Farmstead Shanag sits about 4-5 km north of Manali, up toward Old Manali and Solang, higher and closer to the snow line. It's wooden chalets and stone cottages on open orchard lawns, and it's the more romantic of the two, the one we point honeymooners and anniversaries toward. Persimmon Farmstead at Badgran, our flagship, is 14 km south of town on the Kullu-Manali highway, a minute off the road opposite Span Resort. It's the deep-quiet one, with the strong morning sun guests keep writing about, an orchard built for doing nothing well.
Neither is a big hotel. Rooms are cosy rather than sprawling, which we think is the point, you didn't come to Manali to sit in a large empty room. What you get instead is a bed pointed at the mountains, real quiet, and hosts who know your name by the second morning.
Mornings you'll actually remember
The single most repeated thing in our reviews is the morning sun. Rooms catch early light, so you wake to it on the bed and the peaks already out, no alarm, no scramble. Order chai to the room, or bring it out to the lawn and watch the valley wake up. In winter, the snow's there from the pillow. It sounds like a small thing until it's your third slow morning in a row and you realise you've stopped checking your phone.
Evenings by the fire, and a kitchen that shows off
On clear nights we light a bonfire on the lawn. Two chairs pulled close, the snow peaks going pink and then dark, food coming out from the kitchen, that's the evening most couples tell us they didn't want to end. And the food is genuinely why we're here. When we left our corporate jobs and settled in 2021, the stated goal was to make the food at Persimmon a thing people talk about in town. It's a small family kitchen, not a hotel banquet line, so we cook to order rather than off a fixed menu. Tell us what you feel like and we'll make it, and if you want a quiet table for two away from everyone else, just say so.
Half the couples who ask us to "do something special" for a dinner are marking something they haven't told us about yet. So now we just ask when you book, anniversary, first trip, proposal, and quietly build the evening around it. It's the best part of our week.

Which Persimmon home is more romantic for couples, Shanag or Badgran?
Persimmon Farmstead Shanag is the more romantic pick: it's higher up, about 4-5 km north of Manali toward Old Manali and Solang, closer to the snow line, with wooden chalets and stone cottages on open orchard lawns. Badgran, 14 km south, is the deep-quiet choice with the strongest morning sun.
Can you arrange a private dinner for two?
Yes. Our farm kitchen is small and family-run, so we cook to order rather than off a fixed menu. Tell us roughly what you'd like and we'll set a quiet table for two away from the main dining area, or lay something out by the bonfire on a clear evening. Just ask when you arrive.
Do you have room prices, and how do we book?
We don't post room prices or take online payments. Booking is a simple request-to-book over WhatsApp (+91 62306 45166 or +91 99999 75545) so we can talk through your dates, which home suits you, and any occasion you're marking. Send a message and we'll confirm from there.
Is the farmstead good for an anniversary or honeymoon?
It's built for it, quietly. Both homes are pet-friendly, have bonfires, 24x7 hot water and free wifi, and sit away from the crowds. Tell us it's an anniversary or honeymoon when you message and we'll help you pick the right room, sort a special dinner, and time your trip around the season you want.
Tell us your dates. We'll confirm, personally.
You send a request, a real host confirms it by WhatsApp — usually within a few hours.
