A Spring Blossom Stay Near Manali
Spring (mid-March to late April) is blossom season in the Kullu valley, when our orchards turn white and pink with apple, cherry, plum and apricot flowers. Days are mild, mornings crisp, crowds thin before the summer rush, and rooms are easier to hold. Both our farmstays sit among the trees in bloom.
Spring is the quietest good time to come. From about the third week of March into late April, the orchards around both our homes come into flower: cherry and plum first, then apricot, then the apple blossom that gives the whole valley its white-and-pink wash for a fortnight or so. It doesn't last long, which is rather the point.
The weather in these weeks is honest mountain spring. Daytimes sit around 15–22°C and are pleasant in a light jumper; mornings and after dark drop to single digits, so you'll want a warm layer for chai on the terrace. The summer coach crowds haven't arrived yet, the highway moves, and we can usually hold the room you actually want rather than the one that's left.
We run two properties and both work well in spring, for slightly different reasons. It's worth knowing which suits you before you write to us.
Blossom in the orchard, not on a day trip
You don't drive to see the bloom — it's the trees around your room. Apple, cherry, plum and apricot flower across both farmsteads through late March and April, with bees working the branches by mid-morning.
Mild days, cold mornings
Expect roughly 15–22°C by afternoon and 4–9°C at dawn. Good weather for walking and sitting out; still cold enough that our wood fire and hot food earn their keep at either end of the day.
Shoulder-season quiet
Spring falls between the winter-snow visitors and the May–June peak. Fewer people on the trails, easier tables at breakfast, and calmer roads into Old Manali and Solang than you'll find six weeks later.
Easier to book what you want
Because it's off-peak, we can usually offer your preferred property and dates rather than whatever's spare. Send us a WhatsApp with your nights and party size and we'll reply with what's open.
When the blossom actually happens
Bloom follows the weather, not the calendar, so treat these as windows rather than fixed dates. In a normal year cherry and plum open first, around the third week of March. Apricot follows. Apple blossom — the big one — usually peaks somewhere between the first and third week of April, and a single tree holds flower for only about a week. Our Badgran orchard at 14 Mile sits a touch lower and warmer, so it tends to flower a few days ahead of Shanag, which is higher and cooler up toward Bahang. If you're chasing peak bloom specifically, message us close to your dates and we'll tell you honestly what the trees are doing that week.
Which of our two homes suits a spring stay
Persimmon Farmstead at 14 Mile, Badgran is on the Kullu–Manali highway about 14km south of Manali. It's the easier arrival — a smooth run from Bhuntar airport and Kullu, and a good base if you want Naggar, the castle, and the quieter southern valley within reach. Persimmon Farmstead Shanag sits near Bahang, roughly 4–5km north of Manali on the way to Old Manali and Solang. It's higher, greener and closer to the Solang side and the start of the passes, so mornings are cooler and the walking begins at the doorstep.
- Badgran (14 Mile): warmer, earliest blossom, simplest access from the airport, good for the southern valley and Naggar.
- Shanag (Bahang): higher and cooler, closer to Old Manali and Solang, blossom a few days later, better for walkers.
- Both are working orchards, food-first, and pet-friendly — bring the dog in spring; the ground is dry and the trails are open.
What there is to do in spring
This is a walking-and-sitting season more than an adventure one. The lower trails around both homes are dry and clear well before summer. Solang, about 12km up from Shanag, still holds patches of snow at the top in early spring and is far less crowded than in peak weeks. Rohtang and the high passes are usually still shut in March and often only opening late April, so plan for the valley rather than the passes. It's a good time for Naggar, Old Manali's cafés before they fill, riverside walks, and slow orchard mornings with a book.
The food in blossom season
We're food-first year round, and spring is when the kitchen leans on what's coming back into season — fresh greens, the first local produce, slow breakfasts that run long because there's nowhere you need to be. Meals are home-style and cooked to what we have that day rather than a fixed menu. Tell us at booking about anything you don't eat and we'll plan around it. Guests consistently rate the food among the best parts of a stay, and mornings on the terrace with the orchard in flower are the reason to come in these particular weeks.
Getting here in spring
Roads are at their most reliable now — the winter ice is gone and the monsoon is months off. From Delhi it's an overnight drive or bus of roughly 12–14 hours to Manali. The nearest airport is Bhuntar (Kullu), about 50km south of Manali; Badgran is the closer of our two homes to it. If you fly in, allow for the last stretch up the valley. We'll send precise pins and directions for whichever property you book once your dates are confirmed.
A note on what to pack
Layers, not bulk. A warm jacket or fleece for mornings and evenings, something lighter for the afternoon sun, comfortable shoes for orchard ground and short trails, and sunscreen — the spring light at this altitude is stronger than it feels. If you're coming for the blossom, an early camera-friendly morning beats the flatter midday light.
How to book
We take bookings by request over WhatsApp — no online payment and no fixed room rate published, because what we offer depends on your dates, party size and which home suits you. Send us your nights, how many of you, whether a pet is coming, and any food needs, and we'll come back with what's open and the details. In spring we can usually say yes to your first choice.

When is the apple blossom near Manali?
Apple blossom in the Kullu valley usually peaks between the first and third week of April, though it follows the weather rather than the calendar. Cherry and plum flower earlier, from about the third week of March. Each tree holds bloom for only a week or so, so timing is worth checking close to your dates.
Is spring a good time to visit, or too cold?
It's a mild, comfortable season. Afternoons sit around 15–22°C and mornings drop to single digits, so you'll want warm layers early and late but not winter kit. It's drier and calmer than summer, with far fewer crowds — one of the better times to come if you like it quiet.
Will Rohtang and Solang be open in spring?
Solang, about 12km above our Shanag home, is open and often still holds snow at the top in early spring. Rohtang and the higher passes are usually shut through March and frequently only open in late April or later, so plan your trip around the valley rather than the high passes.
Can I bring my dog in spring?
Yes — both farmsteads are pet-friendly and spring suits dogs well, with dry ground and open trails. Just tell us at booking so we can plan the room and space, and mention any needs your pet has.
Tell us your dates. We'll confirm, personally.
You send a request, a real host confirms it by WhatsApp — usually within a few hours.
